Question:

Does baptism cause an ontological change in the baptized? If so, what is that change?

Answer:

An ontological change means a change of the very essence of a being. Since baptism permanently configures us to Christ, yes, it brings an ontological change. This is why the Church insists there can be only one baptism: once the ontological change takes place it cannot be repeated.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church:

1265 Baptism not only purifies from all sins but also makes the neophyte “a new creature,” an adopted son of God, who has become a “partaker of the divine nature,” member of Christ and co-heir with him, and a temple of the Holy Spirit.

Catholics are the fundamental Christians. The rest are sects mostly founded in heresies.

(1) Only the Catholic Church can trace its roots back to Christ Himself.

Within a few short years of the Resurrection, the followers of Jesus began calling themselves “Christians” (cf. Acts 11: 26), and by the end of the first century, the word “catholic”—meaning “universal” —was applied to the Church. The idea of different (and sometimes competing) Christian denominations would have been unthinkable to the early Christians, especially in light of Christ’s pronouncement on one shepherd and one flock (John 10:15) and his prayer that his disciples remain one (John 17:22). It was only human weakness and sinfulness that brought about the religious divisions that afflict Christianity today.

(2) The Eucharist—the Real Presence of Christ—is not found in Protestant churches.

(3) Unlike other Christians, Catholics have a fully sacramental understanding of God’s saving activity.

(4) Because of the Church’s magisterium, Catholics have the assurance that their beliefs are divinely revealed truths, not human interpretations and opinions.

502 Early Church History 20: Early African, Armenian, and Asian Christianity

I think the orthodox church make the same claim? I don't know enough about it tbh.

They do, but it's a lie in their case

I think they might say the same thing again lol. But I know nothing, I have to repeat that. I do appreciate the seriousness of the orthodox church, although where I live it mostly seems to be churches for those language-speaking communities. A seriousness which is obviously not there in the Anglican / protestant churches in the UK, which a lot just seem like churches for people worshipping liberalism tbh.

Who is the blessed man of Romans 4:7-8?

“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven,

And whose sins have been covered.

Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account.”

Mat.23:9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in

heaven.

GM! I would like to agree but remember we are all part of the body of Christ.

As someone who comes from a bloodline of devout Roman Catholics, a lot of my family members became Protestants once we were Americanized. But back in the 1700-1800’s all the important families who were appointed by the kingdoms to run the governments were all under Catholicism.

Idk if you have ever built churches and have done charity work but this is how real mission work happens. Theology is cute but the divine works when you unite all Christians rather than separating us.

PS Devout Christian here so I’m on your side bud

No, baptism does not cause an ontological change. Being born again (born of the spirit) can cause an ontological change.

Baptism is an outward act of faith in Jesus.

Its Jesus who cleanses & forgives us by paying the price on the cross.

Its all quite clear in the bible.

That is your word against the Church magisterium, which means arguments within the solid completude of God's immutability that os passed on to His plans.

You just need to learn what you are talking about.

Its in the bible. Its what Jesus & Paul said & wrote. Not my opinion.
