It is almost January, time to get ready to start seeds in a couple months.

What are you going to grow in your garden this year? What are you going to grow that will be new for you?

Or what did you used to grow and haven't for a while but this season you are going to bring it back?

Planning an outdoor bed of mushrooms with solar powered misters

Yeah, I'm getting more into mushrooms this year. Found a local commercial grower giving away grow bags. Unlimited mushroom mulch. Chopped it up into the beds, and after the bloom, I had mushrooms for months popping up around my other crops. That was happy accident but now that I know, I'm gonna be way more intentional with it. Deep fried oyster mushrooms are delicious.

I want this so bad but indoors and fully controlled is the only reliable way in my climate.

I'll be moving back to Texas next year. Arkansas is definitely the shit for growing everything. I grew tons of stuff I could never grow in Texas.

Well, Fayetteville area at least. Haven't lived in any other part.

I didn't have any luck with cucumbers this year, al of my plants shriveled up and died shortly after planting. Not sure what happened with them but I want to focus on more of those this year. I also had zero luck starting my own pepper seeds this year, want to figure out what I did wrong there as well.

Try these and don't get mad at me when you have more than you know what to do with. Technically they are not a "cucumber" but the flavor etc is identical. I literally fed more of these to chickens than I ate because I could not keep up with 3 plants.

Thanks! I'll give those a try!

I’m doing something different this year. Starting January, I’m doing what I’m calling the β€˜homestead challenge’, where I eat only what I grow/forage/hunt/raise one day a week, increasing a day a week each month. July will be whole month, then back to normal… so, micro greens and early starts are happening now and lots of hunting. This is designed as a learning experience for me. If I wanted it easier, I’d start in March, but going hard to see what happens…

It sounds very cool and you should post about it daily.

I once a week should be about right. I’ll post on it starting 1st full week of Jan.
