Martti has 100 blue coins. Kieran has 100 red coins. They want to trade — but they don’t trust each other.

So Martti sends Kieran a sealed digital envelope. Inside are the blue coins. Kieran can only open it with a secret. He has 24 hours to figure it out — and only he can open it.

Then Kieran sends Martti his own special envelope with the red coins. Only Martti can open it — but he has just 12 hours. Here’s the twist: if Martti opens the envelope, the secret gets revealed.

So if Martti takes the red coins, the secret leaks — and Kieran can then open the blue envelope.

No one can cheat. The trade either happens fairly, or not at all.
