#asknostr What's the best way to bring in memes / short videos from other platforms? I.e. something funny on Instagram... Should I link to it? Download it and repost it?
What are the ethical, moral and/or op-sec issues?

Download and repost. Memes in particular.
If you are concerned about opsec you can erase the image metadata before reposting. Good practice for posting images on Nostr anyway.
I would prefer screenshots, where the source is clearly visible. I mean the name of the user and the platform. I do not know much about laws. But this is my personal preference, since it gives me the freedom to verify, that it is legit without leaving a direct link to the platform (since it is an investment, to switch the platform manually and search the account. I hope you can consider my answer <3
well if you download an IG video, it comes with that bouncing watermark that gives the name of the IG account, so that sources it
Think you're talking about TikTok? I don't even know how to download an IG video...
yt-dlp works but not sure you’re on Linux
lol no I don’t use tik tok … I’m talking about IG. It’s easy, the option is either under the “…” or under the paper airplane icon
Instagram taking ownership of its users content is the ethical violation, not reposting on nostr, which has a clear path to monetization. It's OP's own fault if they don't use nostr, not crying to the platform that stole their content, even if it does drip a little cut of the profits back to them
