Would you rather have the trait of invisibility or insensibility, or both, or neither, and why? šŸ” Not here to argue with the infinite opinions. Not here to ā€œbuild an audienceā€, but to literally use this for ā€œnotes and other stuffā€ (maybe I’m here to rebuild my sense of self … after a bunch of changes, experienced as traumatic) ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹šŸ’ āœļø I would like these to not exist: - poverty - pollution in LCOL areas - factory farms, slaughterhouses - war

ā€œAs backlash against AI data centers over their electricity and water use is growing worldwide, their public health impact is also receiving heightened attention. Some state agencies have begun conducting health impact assessments of data centers’ on-site diesel generators to inform emission limits, and residents near a large AI data center in Memphis, Tennessee, have raised strong concerns about air pollution and health risks—concerns that have reached national headlines.ā€

lol, at one point, my advice to someone re: work stress was, just drop your jaw.

however, turns out it’s not that simple.

ā€œI get my fair share of critique on this platform, and I’d be lying if every now and then, I didn’t consider just logging off for good and returning to purely being a spectator on here.

When you so meticulously build a meaningful life, it can feel counterproductive to willingly subject yourself to the unnecessary and usually misdirected negativity of the internet.

But then I read Toni, Audre, Joanna, or I’ll come here, and watch a video from someone far, far away, admiring the trees against a sunset. In an instant, a human miles and miles from me, who thought to share a brief moment from their corner of the world, with whoever might stop to see it, has brought beauty to my life. Now that is power, and a whole lot of soul.

We don’t have to be a renowned author or activist to change a life and build a new world. We just have to be human.ā€

ā€œThe change reveals new insights into how a safer, almost predator-free environment can allow animals to experiment and innovate, scientists say.ā€

ā€œThe young birds are also behaving more boldly, mingling more, and trading songs. "What we see are all these fledglings hanging out together in mixed-species flocks, and they're learning from each other", and imitating each others' songs, Kleindorfer says. ā€œ

This is the best article I have ever read. Hooray! Get rid of human-introduced predators (mice, rats, cats).

Side note: it does seem cruel to poison the rats and cats … also, I wonder what type of insecticide they used - hopefully not one that will poison the plant-life along with the specific insect causing disease.

ā€œWhen modern western society does what it’s meant to, by adulthood, we find ourselves on a mostly predetermined, linear path, with any sense of self, any sense of knowing, all but beat from us.

Without much thought, we learn to suppress or reject what isn’t logical and sensible.

When I finally began to explore and articulate, even just for myself, the feelings my brain had dismissed, I couldn’t turn back.

Deep down, I’d always known what did or didn’t feel right about this place.

It’s a scary practice … until I realized the path I wanted to follow wasn’t a straight one. It was an arc, bending back towards a way of being that once was. A return to a world that honored our connectedness; that all life is constantly supporting the next. It made the path feel a little less lonely because we’ve walked it before.ā€

ā€œnormieā€ is a condescending term when the topic is a complex problem.

it’s just about people’s experiences and what education they got.

I was thinking about the future of photography, esp with all the features available in apps like ChatGPT, Grok aso.

Consider the photos in this post, with the Maiko (apprentice Geiko/Geisha). I made this in Kyoto. In the background of the original, you see some cars which I find distracting and not very pleasing. How easy it is to just have ChatGPT replace the car with some pine trees or the golden temple in Kyoto? Within seconds? I can have my photo made just to my liking.

So you could say why bother going out and shoot because it will be very difficult , if not impossible to make photos you make yourself look as good as those made or altered by AI, if you know how to give it the right prompts.

ChatGPT now also includes a connection to the Photoshop app that analyses your photo and makes suggestions on how to improve it with adjusting contrast, saturation, lights, shadows et cetera and it does a real good job. So why bother?

I guess it all comes down to the experience you are having and the excitement of being at the right place at the right time and capturing the scene.

I’ve often thought there is an element of hunting in photography, esp when capturing people or animals. Photography can be a sort of replacement for that feeling.

Only afterwards do I look at it again at home and maybe post it on here. And to be honest, I do appreciate the likes and reposts and of course the zaps. It feels like a validation.

So I guess there are two main experiences connected to photography: the excitement of the moment itself and then the experience you get when showing the result to others.

Making AI adjustments doesnt affect the first feeling. Either it was there or it was not.

So it affects only the moment showing it to others, not the high you get from clicking at the right time, capturing beauty.

That in itself is a reason to keep on shooting. AI will never be able to spoil that for me.

In post processing, even removing small distractions, like some litter on the foreground, I don’t have a problem with.

There are whole debates about this online though, for many it is considered ā€˜not done’.

So where is the line for me?

I guess removing a fundamental part (subject, total background or foreground) and including something that was not there, is where I draw the line.

Making changes like that takes away any satisfaction I might get from showing what I made to others. If that means i ā€˜lose’ to those that do make their photo’s ā€˜perfect’ this way, then so be it.

Let me know you thoughts on this!

HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY AND THANK YOU FOR APPRECIATING MY WORK!

I think with your litter example, the litter should be included cuz that’s the reality.

An ongoing theme in life … seems to be, let’s see how people can twist the act of communication.

It’s *been* happening in politics, and toxic workplaces.

Also noticing it on social media.

… and some interpersonal relationships.

well, it seems to be a common pattern that workplace management structures tend to not value the individual. Especially workplaces that pay a decent to okay salary.

So when the individual is not valued, they are either ignored, treated in impersonal ways, or actively devalued (i.e., being managed out).

So, depending on the intensity of that experience, all the things on the list could be negatively affected. You also left out one - basic household chores, like cleaning related.

I think it’s more like things end *and* they don’t end

šŸŖ¾šŸƒšŸŖ«

Yes … it would have to be narrower since micropayments aren’t all connected across platforms …

Your comment is conflating a bunch of ideas …

1. Nostr operates as an app funded by OpenSats donations (to pay coders and etc.)

2. Users of the app are choosing a social media that is an alternative to centralized, data-selling, algorithm ones.

The types of users of social media ….

1. very ambitious people who want to make money via a skill

2. people who are okay with having a more typical job and using social media for fun - sometimes this means only browsing, or some commenting, sometimes this means posting.

so, you’re just referring to the first type of social media user. I don’t really know about that. I’m more of the second type. In that case, I find zaps distracting.

I think this type of post (encouraging zapping sats on Nostr) is sort of addressing the huge U.S. wealth gap, and saying that by people, who are benefitting from their passive income investments, zapping ā€˜creators’ (ie, people with little to no investments) on Nostr, this will help to solve that problem?

… if so …. that seems to be a very limited way. I think it will mainly distinguish those who are good at consistently garnering zaps.

uploading long things like movies … means more data centers for storage? Which can create pollution.

but just a tad too cynical.

it’s new to me that it can be done in a jar 😚 it reminds me of those witchy/magic illustrations where people draw a jar filled with some sparkling fluid.

my parents would do sprouts, but on a bamboo tray covered with a damp cloth.

finished the one with the bird in flight, or landing. This is when you can really see the bright color which was hidden before. Seeing it at the park, it looked bright orange. But reference photos online show it as red with a yellow streak on top. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I’m still gonna think of it as the bird with the orange wings even if the name is ā€œred-winged blackbirdā€

someone on Nostr recommended Fairy Tale, the audiobook.

The reviews on amazon and goodreads are very polarized.

most people love the beginning and dislike anything after that. Which I agree with.

your response has 3 parts.

the 1st part is off-topic; still talking about a distant, idealized future.

middle part is an accurate confirmation of the problem: that poor people don’t have access to the benefits of bitcoin.

the 3rd part is irrelevant and contradictory to what was already said. Most poor people lack the ability to HODL long term, remittances from the US are limited in usefulness, and access to education is generally limited . . . chat GPT can be very educational, but only if one thinks to ask *and* knows what to ask… or is shown how to use it - like setting it up in their native language, or having it on ā€˜speaking’ mode if they are illiterate.

there’s a big knowledge gap just in basic financial literacy involving basic investing skills.

it’s very special to be able to invest in a way where one is consistently getting passive income.

On top of that, if one is also investing in Bitcoin in a way where they are consistently getting a passive income, that is even more special.

this is not normal. There are a lot of people who have never invested.

Passive income access varies more by race, income, and education than gender.

yup, preliminarily trying out Misfits Market. Got one order so far. And it seems to be an awesome idea and way of carrying it out. šŸ›’

actually, correction! An iron pill may not be necessary. šŸ˜Definitely not daily. But I think the recommendation to separate caffeine from meals applies (for women who are vegetarian or vegan, esp. after lifting weights or getting period).

… will ask my PCP about this.

There was one day where I felt oddly physically weak, and I’m wondering if it was related to the new habit of drinking matcha frequently, including with meals. 😬

yeah … accounts like that are creepy af. Early on, I got into a discussion about a general political topic, and that account ā€˜liked’ both comments, with opposite pov’s.
