Yeah, okay, but then why would we want to use American stuff? If someone in America doesn't like us, they can just turn off our Internet.
Yup.
But look at what is happening at ICANN and the other low-level hardware connection points on the backbones. It's REALLY not hard to shut things down in a hurry.
ICANN headquarters is in California. Same as everything.
Presidential global Internet kill switch is in Florida.
Yes, but ICANN isn't strictly under US control now, which more than a little pisses me off, since we are still one of the few cuntries that still gives lip service to freedom.
