Welcome new Nostr users! Yes, Apple wanted to ban a Nostr app because of "Zaps". What are Zaps? They're a way to provide signal and value to someone's content. They're a true form of feedback versus the hollowness of "Likes".

We're using Zaps to create a value for value economy here on Nostr. We're changing the social narrative.

But, beyond Zaps, Nostr is great because it's censorship resistant and decentralized. That means if Apple does ban the Damus app, there's dozens of other clients on the web, iOS, or Android that still function just fine.

In fact, Damus was banned in China several months ago. Those Chinese users are still using Nostr. It's beautiful.

Decentralization is the future. Welcome to it. We're glad to have you here.

Discussion

I love having the discussion with new users about how Amethyst, damus and all those apps are basically the same thing. A client , a connection tool too the greatest protocol ever ! 💜🧡

exactly. a tool to connect and use a protocol. just like internet explorer, firefox, chrome, opera, etc for the web.

Well since you mentioned it. What browser does nostr:npub18ams6ewn5aj2n3wt2qawzglx9mr4nzksxhvrdc4gzrecw7n5tvjqctp424 use??

brave and firefox.

Personal use: Brave

Work use: Chrome and Edge

this is a scam. thankfully nostr has powerful muting tools 😉

I recommend taking that 1984 commercial's sledgehammer, smash all your apple garbage and get a GrapheneOS phone

if anyone does this, please make a video.

honestly i started using damus like three days ago and i have no idea how any of this works but apple’s reasoning here seems a lil silly to me. aren’t there lots of apps where you can do something similar to… whatever zaps are?

welcome! zaps are money. zaps are tiny pieces of bitcoin. zaps are becoming really popular and because of this, Apple wants their piece of the pie, IMO. Apple views zapping a note as paying someone for their content, and thus is a sale of a digital good. it's not entirely the same.

super interesting. is there a resource i can access to learn more about damus/nostr/lightning network?

This!
