I have my reservations but given what I’ve seen so far from the protocol I’m pretty excited for the future 🙌

What reservations do you have?
There’s a few:
- Lack of incentives for running relays might cause the number of them to stagnate, which might end up hurting the overall protocol, affecting reach / visibility, as user numbers spike. This also leads to hyper prominent relays which is the type of centralization we’re all trying to get away from.
- Spam
- Lack of privacy / encryption (I’m not too big on this but lots of folks here are as well as those who might seek this alternative to big tech)
- Diversification of content in order to draw rank and file users and not just crypto/tech fanatics like us 🙂
Good thoughts/questions/concerns.
Relays: I’ve seen a few of the devs talk about going to a “pay to post” type model such as 1sat an interaction type thing.
Then have like a “slow mode” where if people are spamming it cost them exponentially more and thus is cost prohibitive
Likewise the relay might earn a small micro fee similar to an LSP.
Spam: I had a huge spam problem (along with most others) like two weeks in for me…
Once I switched to WOT relays…zero spam within ~24 hours.
Privacy: I’m not understanding your concern here…everything is signed and encrypted is my understanding
Diversification: this is a big one for sure…lots of bleeding and leading edge adopters here right now…early adopters will come but until then, I agree it’s certainly “tech expert” and “Bitcoin maxi” heavy
But to that point, that’s one of the draws for me. I’m building authentic relationships now; so that when the tipping point occurs, I’ve planted my flag so to speak
Mostly it’s the immutability of pub keys and the fact relays see them. Something like that would be a hang up for a true anon who’s trying to preserve anonymity even if doxed through their pub key.
