We're calling it Spaces in development, but when we launch in production, it will be called Nests.

you can create as many as you'd like.

Is this akin to Reddit subs? We’d have nests for different topics?

That's a good analogy. You can make your own nest for a given topic if you'd like and it's always available at that URL.
