Because the more you consume, the more the state collects.
The state is not interested in a deflationary system where savings are favored.

Well said. Indeed once you have bitcoin you can live like the rich - minimize earned income and time your gains with your intentional consumption vs maximizing earned income to fund unintentional consumption.

I'm more inclined to think that consumerism stifles effective popular dissent to an overbearing political class and is more likely to encourage indebtedness, ie. Empowering the financial apparatus (banks et al.)
The state collects more in a consumerist environment if there's a sales tax, or a high sales tax, but that's rarely the case in the US, is it?
