Good morning #nostriches. There isn't a single merchant in #Ankara where I can pay with bitcoins. (Or it's just #Blink's missing data. I don't know. nostr:nprofile1qqsdd0j4jutwejjtafrsmw8c9cptvm9hcr7ts8xxk32spj4pjh8hrvgpz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduq3wamnwvaz7tmpwshxummnw3e8wmmjddejucm0d5qs6amnwvaz7tmwdaejumr0dsag6yd6)

Isn't it banned for payments in turkey? I've read something some years ago.

Not really, indeed we have a new regulatory law for "crypto". It doesn't ban anything afaik

Paying in crypto is forbidden but the law itself doesn’t have any punishment. nostr:npub1cmhrzksr0phayy7twm6zpypwsuhvje5n38xz54wdjxxe8rmue08q3a32xa investigate the situation and asked it to the turkish central bank. It’s basically a “scarecrow law” that make ppl afraid for using anything besides the national shitcoin.

still problematic.

...

In Turkey, cryptocurrencies are defined by the Central Bank in the Regulation on the Non-Use of Crypto Assets in Payments as intangible assets that are not classified as fiat money, scriptural money, electronic money, payment instruments, securities, or other capital market instruments...

It is. Yet we’re trying to spread the adoption in large cities. Istanbul & Izmir are successful so far.

it is not so clear unlike the other regulations, that is true. but this shouldnt be scary because as i said it is "not so clear". even the definitions in the law are not clear enough for a "law"to be in effect properly. but as always id suggest always consult your lawyer beforehand

Dostlar alışverişte görsün diye kanun yapmışlar. Benim tekrar okumadan sonra anladığım bu. Uygulayacak ne güçleri, ne metanetleri, ne birikimleri, ne de istekleri var.

Good morning Kemal ☀️

Gm!

Still nothing in Ankara. 😢

There was a lot of merchant/payments FUD recently. It is legal though AFAIK.

We also use btcmap in blink. Like I explain Kemal in turkish, since Ankara is a city of burocracy, before I showed up, no one tried to orange pill merchants. I’m about to convince a local coffee shop that has low time preference. The owner is highly interested but still has some legal questions. Probably add them into the map in following weeks.

If you’re a bitcoiner who visits Turkey, try Istanbul & Izmir for now. Especcially, Izmir community have been doing a tremendous job. I can say they paved the way in Turkey.

An emendation:

I thought we use btcmap database but apperantly we didn’t. Idk the every detail as a marketing guy. 😔

We've talked about integration A LOT. Andrew and Kemal will hopefully champion it. 🙌

I hope so. There is no need for two maps since we’re all the open protocol supporters.
