Question about relays: If I’m not connected to a particular paid relay, but someone who follows me is, when they “broadcast” one of my notes, can everyone on that relay now see it even though I’m not connected to it? Or do the paid relay operators prevent that by whitelisting only posts from paid pubkeys?

I believe everyone who is connected to the broadcaster’s relays will see your post

Nostream will only accept note writes from admitted pubkeys. The relay doesn’t technically know who’s sending it the event, only the pubkey that signed it. Client auth will change that.

That’d be a nice way to bypass paid relays. Just pay once and have that pubkey broadcast your event. Pure genius.

If it worked.

Someone should implement this, family plans for paid relays.

boosting is an event kind 6, where the tag is the id of the boosted event. so that means, the content of your note doesn't get reposted, but it does show up to other users of the paid relay and has a field that says what relay to find the boosted note on.

Do you know if that’s what Damus is doing when you use the “repost” button? A few weeks ago it was called boost and then it got renamed.

after reading some more, it sounds like damus is posting the quoted content into the event.. so that means, the content does make it to the paid relay. you can read more of the discussion here if you want:
