Been off grid for little over a month here in Antarctica 🇦🇶 miss being on #nostr daily. We don't have alot of daylight this time of year but here's some sunrises and a very sleepy mother and calf whale 🐋

I just have missed this but that is so interesting you’re in Antarctica. What are you doing there?

I work as an electrical engineer on a scientific research vessel

So cool. Major respect 🫡

🫂

The firmament is in Antarctica but it is deep into Antarctica so I doubt you could even go see it.

I've seen my fair share of the continent, and apparently ventured over the icy edge according to some...

Sorry to be that guy...but the earth ain't flat

Nice colours. Those first and last pics are epic

Loving the twilight colours too!

Sorting through some drone shots from today which I hope to share soon 🫂

Nice. Are you on a trip?

No, for work (i coulsnt afford a trip on the passengers ships that now come down here)...this is my 8th year down here on the continent

Wow. You’ve been working for 8 years in Antarctica! That’s pretty cool

I've been working mainly in Antarctica but I also work in the Arctic too occasionally ...I think I posted some pics of polar bears last year on #nostr

I'd love to post all the pics I have but Internet is limited here and when I'm not in work I'm out touching grass with the wife and stacking sats 🫂

That’s cool man. It must be hard to be away from the family

My wife’s top bucket list item is to see Antarctica.

There are so many cruises coming here in the summer months now it's becoming more accessible as time goes on. 5 years ago we would only see maybe 1 or 2 private yachts, but now there's quite a few big ships making the runs to the more accessible areas...with #bitcoin you'll soon be able to make her dreams a reality and pay for one of those cruises (currently <0.4BTC per person last I checked)

Just be sure to go over 65° South...otherwise you didn't 'technically' go to Antarctica 🤭 (that's what I was told when I first went South to Palmer Station at 64° South..."you only visited the Peninsula"...🙄)

Thanks, that price is still out of reach at present. Maybe in the next cycle or two we’ll be able to afford it, and hopefully Antarctica will still be there when we do. 🐧🧊

It's well out of my price range too😅...I'm blessed to be gawk at its majesty and get paid to do so...the views and wild life are what keep me coming back year after year...it is beyond words, and pictures will never do it justice.

And don't worry, it should definitely still be here for a couple more cycles at least...despite glaring evidence of glacial and ice shelf retreat, the enormity of the continent is truely staggering and would take a significant shift in atmosphere to destroy this environment...it is far more resistant to change than we humans are.

Stack well and let's hope you and the wife will be here soon 🫂🇦🇶
