Scientists are blind. It recognizes the Placebo effect but fails to acknowledge the following.

What Christian Scientists do...

what Filipino psychic surgeons do...

what Qigong practitioners do...

what faith healers do...

what Reiki practitioners do...

is study how to wield the Placebo effect at will.

The placebo effect is just a placeholder name for a part of nature who’s rules they can’t begin to describe. Like dark matter, it is not one strange phenomenon that does all these different things. It’s several different things that follow rules like any other force in nature.

5 different schools of thought agree that focusing the mind in certain ways is a powerful healing method, and science fails to explain how some people experience healing when they were administered sugar pill placebos but believed they were being medicated with the real thing…that’s not one thing being viewed by 6 different traditions from 6 angles?

Those different disciplines can use the same tools, but often use different tools. Say you have high blood pressure. One may just get you to calm down and slow your heart rate. Another may use a form of energy to trigger your body to squeeze and release blood vessels to move a blockage. A third may use a different energy to destroy the blockage. And yet another might relax tension in other blood vessels to bypass it till the normal process deals with it.

In this particular case there is calling on higher powers to intervene. Being a willing conduit for those powers. Using your own energy. Or making a connection with the person to help them to fix the problem themselves. All different phenomena all called “placebo” by scientists who don’t have a framework to understand it.
