If you want to read a healthy discussion on the current state of nostr, and ways to make it grow, start with this note and scroll.

I think it’s safe to say we need to start making no-coiners feel more welcome, in whichever ways you think that can be accomplished.

I for one will be following #[1] and taking the small step of de-bitcoinifying my profile somewhat

(don’t worry I’m still toxic pleb maxi that will die on this hill) nostr:note1slyd4yk20eexkz82aa3hfc2xr98zjlh5qs0g60k6mukvc5x40u7qs2lsqz

While I agree with making no-coiners feel more welcome, walk me through your train of thought as to why having any mention of Bitcoin in your profile goes against this goal? As in ‘de-bitcoinifying’ specifically? I do agree with the goal I just think this is a forum to still advertise and promote the use of Bitcoin, perhaps just not the in your face style that many use. Just my opinion, happy to hear your thoughts!

It was never the forum to advertise or promote one ideology or another. We kinda kicked the door open and took over. I believe even #[5] expressed concern with this.

It’s not to say that we shouldn’t be here, all things have to start somewhere.

I don’t even know if what I’m doing is helpful in any way, it’s pure speculation. I don’t expect anyone to follow.

If by some chance it helps to have a “normal” looking profile then great!

Can’t you have a ‘normal’ looking profile and still reference your belief in Bitcoin without scaring no-coiners away? That’s my only point

I don’t want to speak for karnage, and he already responded. My train of thought is that normies first thought when seeing laser eyes is the same thoughts they have on twitter - either (1) annoying crypto bro or (2) crypto scammer. I will always promote bitcoin when the time is right, but I’ve learned (even before nostr) that the in your face style rarely works. So i want to change the perception of my online personality to look more like “normal person who advocates for bitcoin” as opposed to “my entire personality is bitcoin”

Yep. Bitcoin doesn’t define me. I’m obviously as orange pilled as they come but I have other things I can talk about.

To be clear I’m in agreement with this. In your face style isn’t for me, I’m a normal person that believes in Bitcoin. So I think we’re saying the same thing, specifically I was referring to the comments around removing every mention of the word Bitcoin from profile. I think there’s a balance

And don’t believe removing any mention of Bitcoin achieves this balance, just my opinion though

I think as the on-boarding experience continues to get smoother and smoother and a larger proportion of the population experiences Nostr and shares with their social circle - we will see an organic broadening of the types of content and subjects discussed. -- Right now the 'bitcoin-centric information density' metric on Nostr is quite high, which makes alot of sense given that the initial energetic impetus and community that has picked up the torch of development and adoption are largely from the #Bitcoin & crypto community -- that said, as the social circles grow as will the number and variety of inputs and contributions. -- Amazon starts as a 'bookstore' and eventually sells toothpaste....
