According to the stated way they work they always should go down when the appraised values go down, but they certainly don’t ever do that voluntarily. They sure as hell go up voluntarily don’t they? I’ve owned real estate through two major market downturns, with loses of up to 50% in value. Never once have my taxes on those properties gone down year to year.
