In my mind, it’s obvious that there are ever increasing thresholds in which run away wealth can reach a self perpetuating “critical mass”.

Well, most of these billionaires don't just have some billion amount of cash laying around, they just own companies that are super valuable.
If we said as a society, anyone who owns more than a billion dollars worth of stock has to sell it (so socialism...) eventually these entrepreneurs lose control of their companies then we all lose the benefit of that product or service.
Like who would be the better stewart of capital, the government or Jeff bezos? Who makes the lives of more people better?
