What if local politics had much higher participation rate via nostr?
Vote with cryptographic signature. Discuss local issues where you already hang out (nostr).

Bullish on cryptographically signed data with web of trust
It feels like that opens up a whole new world of better democratic processes.
Democracy is coercive by it's very nature.
Markets are a voting mechanism in a way. I think what is unique about this ecosystem we're building is the potential to selectively disclose price information. The current system strikes me as a stupid popularity contest, versus a private discovery of wants and needs.
nostr:npub1gcxzte5zlkncx26j68ez60fzkvtkm9e0vrwdcvsjakxf9mu9qewqlfnj5z this feels like it’s up your alley of interest? Or am I thinking someone else 🤔
Local > Global
Imagine you wake up and browse nostr to see a local vote prompt in your timeline. Read about the issue, proposals, and vote.
You get an instant tally of current votes, fully verifiable by matching to state ID (not disclosed for privacy).
Imagine you think you you should get a say in something when you won't even physically show up.
Id recon most don’t show up because they have no idea what’s goin on in the first place. But even then, people are out and doing things. Why do we need to use ancient technology when we can vote from a phone …
POW, you used to have to own land to vote, the reason was because that implied you had a stake in the benefit of the long term prosperity of a place. If you can't even be bothered to show up, besides being deployed in the military or I'll, you don't get a vote. The other parts, would be beneficial to inform people, but no, voting is a physical thing because it has physical consequences
I agree that it's a very interesting idea, and seemingly has a lot of potential, but if the discussion in this thread is anything to go by, has some pretty obvious limitations: politics.
There's no technological cure for politics because its limits are inherent, just like capitalism can't reform itself and stop destroying itself, humanity, and the natural world; the inherent logic of the system is the limitation of the system.
The question then is, can a community exist free from politics, hierarchical structures, and class warfare, and if so, then can it avoid becoming a cartel/political party, and eventually a state?
Game theory says no, and history is absolutely littered with negative evidence, but given the right incentives could it be possible? I would lean towards no, but you gotta have hope I guess.
Las votaciones hace tiempo déjaron de ser relevantes al menos en mi lugar de origen. La polÃtica sirve solo para generar divisiones sociales. Tengo pruebas y cero dudas.
With single issue delegation please. I have no idea whether we should build that tunnel or not. But I trust Garry on the matter.
