GM #nostr and Happy Sunday 🙏☕️🥳

I'm off the boat now and have made my way somewhere dry - rough winds 🌬 expected along with more rain today so I'm kinda glad I've got three strops holding her to the mooring now - after the last few winters I'll be moving her to the marina from the end of November...

Boating accidents are a real pain in the ass.

Jokes aside, for real, it's a nuisance 😑

I know the feeling, stay safe!

What happened when you had the boat at the mooring over the winter?

Feb 22 I had her beached, tied off at 12 points, someone else wasn't so secure, they came loose in a storm and hit her, dragging her from her spot and landing her among half a dozen other boats - I believe you can still see her there on Google maps...it also dropped her over a submerged engine block which gouged out the bottom every time a wave crashed her down. It took till August to get a tide big enough to float her out to safety.

Then in January this year I got a call while in town to say she'd broken free from the mooring and was crashing against the beach, between two old houseboats, in a 120mph storm, with heavy rain and foot crashing waves. That was an interesting rescue and if it hadn't been for other people down there I'd have lost her, I reckon. Glad I'd jumped off, too, given the way she was rolling over.

That's her, marked with the arrow, around May when some of the boats surrounding her had been moved - two sunk in the lake during that storm

😜

Ouch, what a nightmare! You have a tough boat surviving all that! Thanks for sharing

She's a year older me and as battered and scarred 😂 It's taken most of this year to make her habitable again, repair the rudder, the tiller, the aux engine bracket, still need to replace a halyard and the port side light, as well as finish the repairs to the electrics. I don't advise swing moorings for winter 😑

Ouch.

Very 😂

Better be safe than sorry. I can imagine this is a real pressure point for boat owners nowadays with stronger winds, rougher seas, inland marinas will become more popular, more in demand?
