So this is not a fix, More of a Band-Aid. But if you're using the #amethyst client, you can turn off automatic image rendering and link previews.

I genraly keep this off on most of my apps specifically because of issues like the IP leaker thats DMing people.

There have been instances in other programs such as Telegram where automatically downloading a malicious image can compromise your account.

People will do anything but configure a proxy or vpn, lol.

What is the use of a social network without images? People won't go tapping every image box to see it.

And if they do, it's easier to just pay a good vpn.

I do both.

Although, if they use a vpn they will complain that some websites don't work...

There are no easy solutions, it seems. 🤷‍♂️

Lol yeah always tradeoffs. I dont mind an extra tap to see an image but thats me. Seeing the image in its URL format allows me to briefly assess the link that it's coming from. But I understand that's not the average users habit.

An always on VPN is a simple soultion and might be less annoying for the average user.

Also there's a thing, people often forget to turn it on.

🤷‍♂️

Not sure how it works on iOS but on android you can set a VPN to be always on. It starts on boot. No need to remember.

Do this. Reduce your attack surface. You'll get to see what the image URL looks like before you load it, which means mine should be obviously no good. You'll be quizzed on this later 😜
