If the product is free then you’re the product being sold

The quote didn’t say product it said software. Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, etc are not free open source softwares. They are proprietary software products where the end user is the product. Bitcoin is free open source software and when I use it to zap people I don’t think of myself as the product even though the product/software is free

“Never argue with a moron.

They’ll beat you with experience and win every time.”

You win.

I like both quotes you used they both offer profound insights🤝. I think the disconnect is the use of the term free. I read the quote by Linus to mean free in the sense anyone can leverage it not free in the sense anyone can use it. For example Bitcoin the network is software that’s free to use but you need bitcoin (which requires some sort of cost to acquire) if you want to spend your bitcoin to buy things. With that said I would be remiss to not point out Graham’s hierarchy of disagreement.

Thoughtful reply, mine was abrupt.

Thank you.

I post so frequently and enjoy trolling morons (which are too plentiful) that it often takes a thoughtful reply for me to slow down and adjust to a paradigm of reasonableness.

Thank you.

I’ve been saying this about Google for twenty years. Nothing is free people. Server farms take MW of electrical power, someone is paying, probably a fascist data collecting government.

😄

Certainly, while quite certain the smack ain’t.

Pulp fiction fan, right?!
