How come https://nostr.band/ says I have 90k followers but I only get a few replies to my notes on average?
Then if I try to query a bunch of relays for contact lists and rebuild my list of followers locally I only get something like 3k or 4k?

Could be bots and stuff. I think the way he count is pretty straight forward. I'm myself at 26k (+99% fake) followers but i do know absolutely why tho.

What’s the purpose of showing the amount of followers anyway? Social validation? Reputation?
With the relays I’m connected to while using Damus, I see you have over 35k followers.
relay.nostr.band only returns ~9k of them bcs the rest have zero trust rank and are not returned by this relay. Looking at a random sample of your followers, I'd say those are indeed bots. To get the rest from my relay, try wss://relay.nostr.band/all
With other relays, most of your followers can be downloaded from nos.lol, nostr.mom, nostr.oxtr.dev and offchain.pub. Most relays have limits on number of events they return, so you'd have to scan using since/until to get all events.
Many of these relays are overloaded. It took several minutes for nos.lol to send me 300 contact lists, and then it closed the connection. Similar with nostr.mom, didn't terminate, but took 337 sec to send me 500 events.
