Smash buy as much as you can afford not to touch again for about 5 years. For most just getting started, what this means in practice is that you'll effectively be DCA'ing until your stash is large enough that an 80% draw-down would still sufficiently support your expenses. - at which point you should be able to comfortably smash buy reflexively with whatever you got from then on.
