Last night, my partner, who faces obstacles I do not to life in this country, told me she wanted to go to the local No Kings protest today to get past the fear she has been carrying.

So we went, with the little one in tow. I imagine the organizers would proclaim it a success with hundreds upon hundreds turning up. It left me feeling empty. (I didn't even have time to gather propaganda to hand out.) After about twenty minutes, my partner says to me, "I'm ready to go. I think I agree more and more with you and your friends. This isn't for me."

But at least she went. And at least our two year old made his first protest sign. Which is awesome and, I would argue, contains more coherence than the day's events.
