Any coffee can be used for espresso.
In fact I like lighter roasts for espresso more than traditional espresso roasts (typically dark roasted).
Espresso is made by forcing water through finely ground coffee at high pressure.

Ofcourse you can but not every coffee is good as an espresso. I'd rather get an indication from the roaster.
Roaster typically knows best but itโs also good to experiment to learn your taste.
What kind of machine do you have?
I typically donโt drink espresso at home. But I do have an aeropress with the fellow espresso attachment, which makes a better espresso than the base model delonghi machine I used to have.
