Allegedly video of the lights going out in Belgorod, Russia. Source https://x.com/i/status/2009379694605451298

I'm in Kyiv right now and Russia is going all out trying to bomb the city, with explosions audible every few seconds:

This is the blackout schedule. Though the electricity keeps on flickering outside the schedule:

At the moment about a million Ukrainians in Dnipro are without any power, and many of those don't have heat or water. Weather is expected to reach -13°C soon.

The sooner Ukraine manages to collapse tbe Russian electricity grid the better. The fact that the internet so easily goes down is a good sign of lack of resiliency.

At some point Russians freezing to death stop paying the taxes that funds their genocide. And no tax paying Russian is a civilian – they're all active participants in genocidal war, and just as valid military targets as Russian soldiers are.

One of the many apartment buildings hit tonight by Russian shaheds. Unfortunately due to the snowy, foggy, weather anti-air defense is having a very hard time. Typically about 95% of shaheds get shot down. Not tonight...

Do you have thermal underwear? The heating in my apartment has gone out.

Yes, multiple pairs. Plus a sleeping bag rated to 0°C. So far heating is working fine here. Hell, I left the windows open a bit to better hear the air raid. Should reduce the chance the windows get broken if there is a close hit too.

Open windows when -6 outside? No electricity no water no heating now, 10am. Sleeping bag is a good idea, need to buy.

Yes! Just opened a little bit. Not the whole way.

I got my Kyiv sleeping bag at Decathlon. A cheap synthetic one is ideal for this use-case: you don't care how bulky it is or how much it weighs. And synthetic handles moisture better.

Unfortunately in the long run if you have consistent cold weather mold will be an issue... Homes need enough heat to stay dry. There's no good answer there other than finding some way to get heat.

Question: are people making use of wood pellet stoves? I've seen those used in an apartment-style building in Italy before by plumbing the exhaust out of a window. They do need a bit of power to operate. But some are as low as 75W continuous.

Catalytic propane heaters are another option that might work well. They can be run indoors. Though they do add humidity to the air so might not be on balance a solution for mold.

Zap me

Why are you in Kyiv? I'm paying a lot of taxes for people to not be there.

...and tell me, who exactly are you paying taxes too?

Too bad the war is funded with printed money

😂

Just the other day a ship full of gold from Russia was seized.

The war is being funded with oil and gas, as well as Russia's gold reserves.

High sea piracy is so back! Only it's done by expensive military. Maybe King Donald, Zar Vladimir, Emperor Xi and Queen Ursula should sell Letters of Marque to privateers?

Why waste taxpayer money on the Navy when you can legalize the hustle? The legislation is already on the table to unleash private contractors on cartels and foreign fleets.
