Hello good sir 😁🫂
GM! Sitting on the fence with this one right now. They are largely empty but using likes as a discovery tool at the moment.
A discovery tool for what though? People who don't engage with your posts in actual meaningful ways?
True, I guess I still feel that if they like my note they might share a semblance of common interest so I check their profile and notes out to form a judgement. But I know what you mean. They could instead leave a reply if they don’t have zaps set up.
If it works for you as a way of discovering new accounts worth following then it's not for me to say it doesn't. I typically will follow back people who reply and/or zap posts. If someone only cares enough to like my post then I don't feel they've really given me anything back in the way of value. It costs them nothing, not even their time. Seems like a low quality follow to me.
It’s only a temporary thing during the so-called TikTok influx - I’m actually a fan of zaps only in #Damus and had it on until recently. Will be switching it back on soon.
That said, I do wish the zaps only mode hid the like button from others rather than just myself.
Remember that was how Will originally designed it? The dopamine addiction was too strong for some people to accept that.
Yep!
I got a lot of backlash and negative feedback back then for being supportive of the idea, and for being against likes in general. "On nostr only for the money" was a common accusation thrown around. Wtf 🤣🤣 I have never enabled likes again and there is no turning back. I love the experience without them.
Yea. It's a misunderstanding of economics, common with what is taught in schools today. So much coercion is involved in so many of our purchases that it's too often forgotten that, here in a voluntary v4v environment free of coercion, one can only 'make money' if people choose to part with it. Fraud is still an issue, but here we have a level playing field and we can 'zap the change we want to see in the world.'
