Inflation be like.

🤣
Couldn't figure out the printer at my house sit so went to the local postal annex I'd called to ask if they can print my page containing a return label and how much it would cost. The one I'd just gone to last week a few cities down the road would normally charge me $1 to print my label.
This one told me it costs $2.50 to print a single page. So once I got there and noticed what looked like self serving printers I started asking questions about whether I can use one of the self serving printers and how much it is per page since I imagined that maybe it costs more to print on the sticky label paper and I could just print a regular paper page. He said no and it's $2.50 per page.
I naturally got curious: "do you ever have people coming to print here like more than a page? Seems like you wouldn't get this kind of business from someone who may have more volume at this price?" He was starting to get irritated with me pointing to his watch that this conversation is taking too long (even though the store was empty and there was two more hours before close time) "too many minutes, all these words, it costs money my time"...
And I admit despite being very chill the provocateur punk within me was ON - "I mean let's say someone needs to print 100 page book. Do you really get that kind of client? I just can't imagine someone paying $250 to print 100 pages". So he soften may e thinking he might lose a client, and let me in on the fact that this would cost $.25 per page. I eventually discovered that for more than 10 pages the cost is .25 per page.
I kept poking around saying "so basically it would cost me $2.50 a page to print 9 pages, but $.25 a page to print 10 pages". He confirmed yes. We went into a little banter where I complained that it doesn't make any sense and I feel like I am being robbed considering he actually charged .25 per page but is charging me 10 times more for one. He said l I also pay $6000 rent. There's was a quiet understanding of the pressures of the times. I mentioned something about inflation and all the printing of $'s the fed has been doing and he made it clear he didn't see the correlation but instead that it was that more people live in this area now and he's been here 50 years so he is witnessed it and something about demand and supply.
I could look at it as it's only $2.50 but I just couldn't help feeling energetically it felt like a racket. LOL, I walked in with total knowledge of cost but I just couldn't help to poke at it. It's not the guys fault though he was a total jerk, and also it's not as bad as a similar shop in Mill Valley, CA that I walked into a few months ago and there they charged $5 to print a page 👀
LOL, now that I've just recalled all this I am realizing I should have asked the dude to print me 10 copies of my label for the $2.50 and been an even bigger fucking punk. That would have been a tad bit more satisfying. 🫣😆
