My terminology would be :
You compose and send a note to the relays, that's how you note.
If you send an existing note to the relays, that's how you renote.
Noting, renoting, zapping and fetching others notes is how you Nostr.

As for boosting I would assume it's about the likes and the other reactions though many use it for renotes
