The melt value of a penny made pre 1982 is just under 3 cents.

The cost of them is 1 cent.

Now that Trump is demonetizing the penny, melting them will soon not be illegal. There was a boom in selling these on eBay in the early 2000s people even made sorters to sort by the heavier weight.

It is 1965 all over again but today with copper.

Literally the value of 100 dollars in pre 82 pennies right now is about 276 dollars.

You won't get rich but it is pretty easy value acquisition and fiat goes to zero long term against any hard commodity.
