A subtle reason why you don't have long argument threads here is that interesting replies aren't boosted often and aren't easily discoverable.
I don't understand. How are replies here different from replies in Twitter threads?

i don't know either. we have definitely had long threads
Twitter by default shows replies with context to the user.
Most nostr clients make you choose to either see top posts or opt in to conversations.
