I'd recommend to send your balance elsewhere and reinstall. Did no see such issues elsewhere so far. If you have customa address, backup the seed and use it from Settings > Rec0very to get the address back.

Can't really do anything until the update reaches google play.
Also a bit wondering about what to do with the "wallet backup" as there's no input for it what I can find in the app on the other phone.

Current problem is that the app freezes in the first seconds that the "there's a new upgrade available" card jumps in.
If I'm fast I can click the settings amd enter. But there's not enough time to send funds or get the recovery seed.
My current bet is to wait for the next version in google play I think, as that would update the app and not trigger the new-update card.
It's a hanging network issue that causes the freeze. If you managed to export the wallet backup, you'd still need to get to the seed.
Please disconnect the device from internet so that it starts in offline mode.
1. Backup the seed as the first step.
2. Go to settings > developer > factory reset
3. Get back online
4. Restart the wallet, from last onboarding screen enter wallet recovery from backup. Enter your seed and paste your backup there. If for whatever reason it would fail, select wallet recovery from seed and use it to get back your balance.
I did manage through some luck to export the Wallet backup json string. But where do I input that on another phone?
If I read the version numbers right, I think it is the 19th of Aug update version 0.3.0, on googlgle-play.
