I am looking into Start9 atm. But i am also a little experienced with Ubuntu (at least setting up PCs).

Any recommendation or advice about the difference?

Highly recommended to roll your own! DIY is the way, a bit more work at first but you won’t regret it in the end.

Thanks for sharing, looking into it 🙏

What is the biggest advantage of DIY in your opinion?

You have a lot more control over how things are set up and run. You learn a TON in the process and you will be a more sovereign and knowledgeable noderunner. You are not trusting any 3rd parties with precompiled packages, etc.

Sounds interesting to me

One of the things I have found while using S9 OS. You can not control your keys. You have to get the Backup from and for the system’s. What happens if S9 (as company) stop working or I loss my hardware? How could I force close my channels and recover my fund on-chain? (And what “chain” if I do not have any key).

I mean.. obviously those hypothetical situations are very unlikely but I don’t wanna wait it to happen to worry about it.

If you have a basic understanding of Linux, build your own.

I wrote a few articles about getting started.

Thanks! I currently have the Start9 OS but was willing to upgrade to a DIY. I’ll check your info and see if it helps me
