I highly encourage trying the notebook approach if you're interested in going that far.

Instantaneous communication is great, until you get 100 notifications for 3 apps all dying to addict you to keep attention plus people you don't have time to talk to because you're trying to live real life for a minute, trying to get your attention RIGHT NOW plus your boss trying to basically get you to work 24/7 by getting you to have work email and chat on your phone.

Nah. Delay tolerant networking is the future of day to day communication. Want to talk? I'll see if I can fit you into the schedule, but not right now.

I've been trying this at work for the past couple weeks and it's been pretty interesting. Have to keep my phone on me still in case of emergency but I've found myself pulling out the notebook more often than my phone when bored.
