Think I'm following but incase I'm not, assuming you would need to have lightning compatibility at both ends. So an app on ledger that would facilitate say coinbase to ledger?

Saying that, I believe coinbase were supposed to be getting integrated into ledger.

lightning is a hot wallet. hardware wallets try to be as cold as possible. I guess there are tradeoffs that could be made, using watchtowers etc, but to me ln is what I use for every day transactions, and my hardware wallet is that guards my savings.

Yeah fair. I don't make everyday purchases in bitcoin yet to be honest so I'm more interested in buying on exchanges and getting it off onto a ledger at the cheapest price possible.
