Soulseek still exists I think; used around the rona... problem seems to go in without a library to share, many don't share to users with zero to low ratio of shared files...

many more recent artists in the last 15 years are getting comfortable with open source/free release freemium style marketing, for example, if you know of Stellardrone, you can get all their stuff on FLAC with an entirely nominal fee from Bandcamp... i personally paid like 7 euros for several of their albums but you can literally pay almost nothing
