This is an interesting topic we see very often, especially on reddit.
We can reference the well known quote, "It's not what you know, it's WHO you know...and how well they know YOU."
The point of differentiation between every successful person we've met with a job, is knowing someone who helped you get there.
We've spoken to, and have read about, people applying the typical way online (Indeed, Linkedin) and going through hundreds of applications with no success.
Assuming you are going the typical corporate route, here is what to expect:
apply
make personalized cover letter
search on Linkedin for key people to "reach out"
wait
receive call from screener/recruiter/assistant to "screen you"
schedule call for screening
wait
schedule second interview if screening is successful
delays with video settings
and on and on, 10s or hundreds of times
The energy required to work for others is better spent on creating your own business. Entrepreneurship is an entirely different topic, and not for everyone. But the tech field is extremely saturated, and there is global competition.
Unless you "know people" or have an extremely specific skill set, like machine learning or blockchain programming, you might want to consider starting your own small business.
