listened to a podcast by the founder heard the "why" and it tipped me to try installing on an older computer. wildly smooth & painless for the most part. i've had no issues so far 6 months in. i'll pass the podcast along when i find it.

Tl;Dr Start9 is a true operating system, not an app like Umbrel. Umbrel is further developed and has more apps but less safe. Umbrel looks a lot nicer but I don't care about that.

Stsrt 9 only accessible via TOR when away from home, clearnet coming but not yet there. That requires some extra steps with apps like Nextcloud but doable. Has been awesome and super stable all these months.

This said, I'm a pleb and not a dev so DYOR.

Your note gave me ideas. I fucked around and found out that I had nuked my sever. Happy to report that Start9’s backup system works flawlessly 😄😄
