Most people on here don't know what's going on until someone really popular tells them about it. Completely unnerving to observe.

It doesn't matter how much information is available. It only matters how eager someone is, to attain it.

When I learned Bitcoin was traceable and dicks on darket said you only need to use tor I realises I'm smarter than the average bear. Googled a privacy preserving crypto and came to monero. They got our backs.

Not sure that's what she meant, but I keep a keen eye on everything I can. Not that it matters to my joystick controller.

What I meant, is that most users' experience of Nostr has quickly degraded to the same information funnel that the Internet soon was and social media immediately became.

Making the information more free and more easily-available doesn't make 98% of users better-informed. They quickly latch on to whatever distilled set of information someone or something famous is willing to feed them.

"Doing your own research" is a character trait; the result of an insatiable thirst for knowledge and wisdom.

It has nothing at all to do with the tools available. Those tools just help the thirsty to drink _even more, even faster_.

That's assuming that 98% of humans here only use nostr. I think that the people here are 60% informed, and that's ok. Informed of what, I have no idea. Does it matter? Nothing is the truth. We create our own truth every day by creating the world around us.

That isn't the point. The point is that they come to the most intellectually-liberating online venue in the world and behave the same way that they behave, everywhere.

Yeah, but what can we do about it? It's a community that revels in its own destruction. It's ok. Let it happen. It will get worse. Way worse. Good thing the poles are flipping.

Oh, I'm actually okay with it. Humans haven't changed since my childhood, is all, when we were all offline.

There were the people who essentially lived in the library, back then. The bookworms.

that was me, between reading books and learning to type and write code i was always in the library, and after school, in the computer lab until they kicked us out

Same, bro, same.

The librarian would regularly order books from the university library, as well, because I'd look so upset after reading through entire sections. πŸ˜‚

i kinda basically quit reading books about 2005 or so, and now with the double vision it's a lot harder to do it at all... hopefully that will start to reverse soon

the conditioning that has been carefully architected and implemented has been about destroying people's ability to think, and made them addicted to constant stimulation

this is why primal is such a dumpster fire, they are doing that, but really primitive and repetitive, with far less finesse than the craft of the now 12 years since they started with facebook and twitter

nostr's whole point is to make a leaky bucket that nobody can really control, to allow people (like us) to build tools that move the control locus to the user instead of deceptively crafting a constant instant gratification dopamine addiction

i'm sure even you, like me, and everyone on nostr who gets the point of it, took some time to start to realign your thinking, i mean, i was fed up, i never was attracted to twitter and the bitcoiner community there for me was the last bastion of common sense in the whole world of social media, but even still, so distorted by these deliberate, corrupt incentives

i have gradually curated my list of follows to the end of getting away from this constant discussion about "reach" and "influence" to focus on people who actually understand that social media is not supposed to be entertainment, but a discussion forum

Most of the divide in the world comes down to people who seek out information vs people who passively absorb information.

Whose that famous person?

Many OGs came out telling people that privacy matters. Still the average NGU ETF IOU BTC Bitcoiner doesn't get it.

Stand on your own feet. Use the brain that you've been given.

We need radical encryption and privacy within all systems now. Like in the matrix consider anything unencrypted an enemy.

This includes transparent matrix-conform Bitcoin. Wake up Maxi!

It’s difficult for most people to parse through what is important due to information overload, and rather than putting in the work, they seek refuge in the thoughts of others to absolve themselves of any responsibility if things happen to go awry. What I find most disconcerting is their failure to acknowledge this fact in themselves and the lack of self awareness to know they are dependent on others for their thoughts. This lack of self awareness and delusions of grandeur are what typically gets people into trouble in many facets of their lives. Relationship, finances, political leanings etc.

The most beautiful things in life are always hidden so evil people can't claim them and eventually destroy them
