Not really, we just found some inexpensive ones a while back, after my husband had lost his phone. They work surprisingly well, and we have lots of woods. We've tested them from one side of property to the other, and they work.

I use some $12 ones from Amazon with the kids but was wondering if higher end Motorolas are worth it

Usually the distance range stated on the package is not that accurate, but we have 94 acres, some wooded, and our little walkies work fine out here. If one of us had an accident far from the house, these could be a lifesaver. Or if i just wanted to call him in for lunch.😊

I would test them all around your property, so you know for sure.

We're on a much smaller lot 😁 but yeah on that much acreage I can see wanting to test them everywhere

Really cool that you basically have your own network

Baofeng UV5Rs are a cheap solution ($20-$25 each). They can be unlocked to use frequencies outside of the ham radio bands, like GMRS and MURS. They work as a scanner for analog emergency frequencies too.
