signal is great, this would have been strictly worse as an email thread
Discussion
Agreed but this is not the right tool for managing sensitive organizational access.
I agree with both of you
Signal is an excellent application but security requirements at such a high level mandate an exceptionally high-security device and operating system as well. The weakest link is the device and operating system they're using. I'd be very disappointed to hear if they had been using their personal iPhones or Stock Android devices for this (and it seems like they are, why the hell would you have a random journalist on your phone?). State actors would laugh.
Sensitive Compartmented Information are meant to be handled in unique facilities...
There's an improvement if they had a high security operating system (shameless plug) but even then it should be more bespoke in my eyes. The whole purpose of the device should be just to communicate over their service and nothing else.
JD Vance using Signal for anything Top Secret is ludicrous. Keep it professional.
Professionalism doesn’t exist in this administration.
It was not long from his first tenure back when they were talking about how Trump was using a Galaxy S3 as his everyday device.

I don't have any confidence in state leader personal device choices. It's worse across the pond too:
Weakest weakest link is the user operating the system 🐸
Yeah in no way is it acceptable for the American Vice President to use Signal
or Security Cabinet members for this. There’s an entire agency that supports secure communications for White House principals; WHCA. It’s appalling dismissive and dangerous for them to have used civilian comms. WH staffers can use signal under certain circumstances; time bound, brief. But what occurred was a new low for sure. https://osd.wps.recruit.mil/whca/
