Does Phoenix auto onboard to LN? No onchain balances?

There's no on-chain balance in Phoenix. It's a LN wallet only (lightning node that runs on your phone). You send on-chain transaction to fund phoenix, channel will be open automatically for you.

It was also confusing for me in the beginning.

After a bit of tinkering with phoenix I got it😉

Keep in mind that phoenix chargers you for opening the channel.
