What if this nonsense with inscriptions and BRC20 tokens and all this BS goes many levels up.

What if it attracts stupid number of stupid people who start inscribing stupidity en masse and the fees go beyond thousands of sats per vByte and transactions start costing 100s and 1000s of $$

Do we have any ideas? Is anybody thinking about it?

Soft fork? Kill OP_RETURN completely?

If I am not mistaken OP_RETURN was invented to discourage spam but I’m sure no one could anticipate this level of stupidity.

Or is not anticipating this level of stupidity the stupidity itself?

Until “prohibitive cost” becomes unreasonable and too much for idiots with money we might be in for a lot of pain
