I have been thinking about this all morning.

What brought you here? What keeps you coming back? Do you have incentive to invest into those things? Do you hope for financial gain by participating here? How does one define value?

Genuinely curious.... many hurdles to be cleared, obviously.

first, I think the vast majority of twitter users won't be able to meet the requirements of the revenue system there. But it is a smart way to retain the content creators, which also keeps those those users too.

But yeah, you raise some good questions re: incentive to stay on nostr, as I think it z4ps aren't actually the main feature, similarly the rise in popularity in bluesky isn't about a revenue incentive.

As a somewhat side issue you could even argue that z4ps may have been implemented prematurely here lol, it's somewhat incentivised repetitive b!tcoin platitudes4pay maybe, and making a feedback loop of bad content which actually puts 'normies' off, not sure lolol. And I use 'normies' somewhat reluctantly, cos in this scenario it sort of implies anyone not interested in b!tcoin twitter in jokes as normies, and that seems not very generous lol. I think if you want to make an interesting and growing social media you probably don't want to incentivise farming for z4ps, it's not interesting and will put off newcomers, which MAY / may already be occurring, also not sure lol.

I think I've said it before but i can see potential for hope and growth in nostr being treated as a place content creators in the meantime point to in case their main accounts elsewhere get nukes, the same way youtubers recommend their Rumbles and etcs. And yeah those content creator people would see an incentive of potential revenue here. But a general audience don't really care about the sort of self-referential content about z4ps and whatnot. But again, this is nascent but I'd like to fast forward inti the future and see z4ps as a normal background function really lolol.

yadda yadda, what a mess of thoughts lol, some of it might even be clear hopefully.

I feel like since everything on nostr kind of works backward from a 'normal" social media experience, maybe focusing on getting normies to stay over getting content creators to join might be an avenue worth exploring more? If there is a fanbase to woo, creators will show up to entertain them & rake in some of the revenue available eventually. There seems to be only passing focus on retention. It picks up, wanes very quickly, then picks up again weeks later. Not just in the sense of non-bitcoin content but in terms of simple engagement. It's been a noticeable pattern. Most people that end up trying nostr on their own accord aren't making "valuable" content per se but seeking out an opportunity to be heard/seen/find a tribe/try something new/etc, with a portion seeking censorship refuge but that's not a major driver no matter how much we wish it could be. I don't think they are looking for content that's already available basically everywhere. They mostly poke around for a while, end up losing interest, and don't return. That's a bigger problem in my eyes than having content creators present. I know none of what I'm saying solves the current value issue but I dont think the sats are really here yet. A lot of people simply don't have the expendable income to spend the equivalent of an hour's pay on notes daily or even weekly & if they aren't receiving zaps for what they post, those wallets go empty very quickly. Wealth is heavy & always falls to those that have learned to collect it, but in this untrodden territory, I think that is something that may need to be actively pushed back against until the numbers justify letting those natural patterns emerge. In which case, tiny zaps are kind of useful. I'm just sort of thinking aloud because this problem is a tricky one that I'm certain will require multiple solutions... so why not? haha

I added the question about value because it's such a relative term when there is no price tags involved. Sure, time and energy go into the content that is presented here but the value of that is left to be determined by the viewer who likely has no concept of how much work/resources had to go into creating it. Beyond that, they have to determine if they can afford what they deem it to be worth, are others going to find it equally as valuable and share that burden, etc. It's another beast to fight right along side the "future sats value" crowd. It took me a few months here to decide "how" I was going to manage my spending and it came down to what I felt I could afford without jeopardizing my other responsibilities & goals. It still feels like I'm being cheap sometimes but ultimately it's what works and i have to stick to it. What I receive in zaps doesn't offset that (much). I'm here TO spend money, not make it... but if my reasons for showing up were different, I would have gone bust a long time ago. Just something else to ponder.
