The question I have is, how do these apps and websites know you are using a VPN, unless the VPN itself is telling them?
They keep a list of all the IPs from the VPN provider. There's no solution for this besides getting a shit load of new fresh residential IPs.
Proton has a 'Stealth' protocol, but it doesn't work.
I wondered if that was the case. And I bet ISPs will be black-holed if they don’t divulge the information.
Up to us to build a better, privacy respecting world.
You have to prepare for much worse scenarios than this even if this is already very serious in itself 🤷♂️

I just cancelled Netflix because they started blocking my VPN.
Privacy isn't a crime.
It's good to try both Tor and VPN separately. As sometimes they don't block Tor but do block VPNs.
I’ve tested entering Gab using 20+ different Proton IPs, not a single one worked. Proton’s ‘Stealth’ protocol, which was supposed to fight VPN blocks, also doesn’t work.
If Gab, a fairly small platform, is able to successfully detect our VPNs with perfect accuracy, and effectively block it entirely, then what stops every other site and big tech from doing the same? This is a worrying trend for online privacy.

It's too complicated to be practical but I've been able to get around these bans in the past by hosting Squid on a cloud server and proxying my browser traffic through that. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squid_(software)
