I want a 3D printer so bad. But at what point does a $500 printer used to print a .99Β’ funnel make sense? Other than itβs cool - which I totally get

Can always start with an older one that someone is selling.
Many are in lightly used condition and cost less than half their initial price (or less)
kind of want a giant one so I can print furniture and stuff.
I love the references to FabLabs in all the William Gibson books where they can print anything even living tissue.
I found a local guy with a printer, send him STL files, and pay him for the filament. Cheaper than buying and maintaining a printer for really small stuff.
I've paid to have a few things printed for me, it's a cost effective model. I'm pro 3D printers, just have not been able to pull the trigger yet myself. I'm also a habitual hacker and modifier of gear - so I have a million things I would like to 3D print. Step 1 - learn the CAD tools.. any suggestions on the good software to learn? #asknostr #3dprinting
