I agree with this statement, but I think sacrifice can be a matter of perspective if you feel that this is your mission in life. And given that scenario (edge case or not) there is no sacrifice.
Yes. Sacrifice is very wide ranging in application.
Economic calculus itself seems to be an exercise in triaging sacrifice.

Right! At a certain point you reach a limit where you sense no sacrifice, but if your determinism towards a goal fades even the slightest, and you zoom in, the loss is detected. 👏
