Natural fibers all the way! Or ideally superwash 😏

But I’m still brand new to wool and would love to know your system.

I do like superwash and knit with it quite a lot but I find that when knitting thicker yarns (DK and above) it seems to grow after wash (meaning I have to knit much tighter than I like) and pills with wear more quickly.

my system is air out woolens in an open basket (ex, wire basket) or on a line. once in a while, if airing out isn't enough, I gather the items and put it in my top loader washing machine for a soak with Eucalan (wool wash) about 40-60 minutes, swishing gently by hand every so often. Then I drain the washer and use the spin to spin out most of the water. Then air dry.

Thank you so much!

A further question: is there a good way to treat stains on wool? My go to (oxiclean) specifically says not to use it on wool…

I'm not sure. I haven't had any instances where I had to deal with stains on wool that were too obvious or stubborn that it didn't come out with wool wash. sorry I couldn't be more helpful here.
