No it doesn't. NostrGram only reads from paid relays for the Global feed. For the other feeds it reads from 150+ relays -- paid and free.

the global feed is what i want an unfiltered view of

Only if you love porn and spam.

Unfiltered global to me is a little like bladerunner on the ground. A lot of weird trash, but some interesting nuggets and a jewel sometimes.. Sometimes interesting to explor. You have some really nice filters #[4] , maybe you have an β€˜open global’ filter?

not for day-to-day use but for getting an overview. i come from a computer background. before i can sit back and let the computer do the work for me, i want to inspect that it's doing that work correctly first.

I get that. I'll an option into NostrGram to let you turn off the paid filter. It's not complicated to do so.

ah, you're (on) the dev (team). what do you feel is the main thing that sets the client apart from others?

I am the dev team lol. It's a one man show. I'm not trying to set the client apart from others to be honest. I'm just making the client I want. As it turns out a lot of people want what I want, too, and have made lots of suggestions for things I didn't know I wanted until they suggested it. So it's evolving with the user base.

i am not even the least bit surprised that you're doing it alone. this is how it is, even for some of the biggest SW projects out there.
