People who quit nostr because they think it’s “boring” are actually the boring ones who need an algorithm to make the internet more exciting

Legit 💯

I tell my kid this all the time

To paraphrase Louis CK - the inside of your mind is infinite. You have no right to be bored.

lol i say this to my kids

Entitled. Boooring.

nostr is for conversation, not dopamine addiction

Nailed it ⚡⚡

The internet was plenty exciting without an algorithm. I know because I was there.

It was more fun because you had to dig it up

Yes, but companies need ad revenue to make sufficient profit these days. Just shows how overvalued all corps are today. Nostr clients and apps will make the same mistakes somewhere down the road. And those that rely on such means for revenue will ultimately prove to be the least innovative of all and die out. We're literally witnessing that right now with the current state of the internet. Advertisements have always been a way to fuel engagement without providing the necessary or desired information while simultaneously churning in corporate profit. Modern-day corporate marketing has essentially just become a way to suppress human intellectual curiosity through the use of data collection and algorithmic indoctrination.

I'm glad I found a bbs that works for me.

We need to go back to users and flee from companies.

Well, to be completely fair, there isn't much content on here except Bitcoin, libertarian politics, rants about the banking system and so forth, so I can't blame people for being bored here. We desperately need more content variety in order to be viable as an alternative for a good majority of people. I try to contribute by offering all sorts of content that I'm interested in, particularly in the tech sphere, but until we have a lot more content variety in other spaces, I can't see Nostr growing.

And of course the problem with that is that the less people we have on Nostr, the less content variety we have, therefore, it's cyclically repeating the issue. We need to stop making everything only about Bitcoin and libertarian philosophy and all that. There's nothing wrong with that sort of content, but until we have a little bit more variety, it's going to come across as an echo chamber to anybody that tries to join this place, similar to how the Fediverse and Bluesky tend to come across as echo chambers for another type of crowd.

Content variety is key.

Been seeing this lately but I'm afraid I missed the context to get the joke lol

It’s pretty self explanatory. You don’t like the lack of variety here. Sports is one of the most common topics in normie land.

... so, because I think we need content that's not just Bitcoin this, hodl that, libertarian and agorist philosophizing, that makes me a normie?

Where did i say that?

You implied it. All I said is that I understand why people find Nostr boring when the content variety is sorely lacking.

I didn’t imply anything. You said you wanted more content variety. I said let’s talk about sports like they do in normie land.

Alright, I'll accept it and offer an apology if I genuinely misunderstood.

But why? We don't need to appeal to everyone, and trying to do that inorganically is often a bad way to do it.

Sources: Linux, gaming, hollywood

I don't think we need to appeal to absolutely *everyone* but we do need to appeal to a broader audience in general if we want Nostr to be the viable alternative everyone seems to want for it. I mean, even Bitcoin wouldn't have gotten anywhere if you didn't have people from all walks of life giving it a shot.

Plus, if all people talk about here is Bitcoin, libertarianism, agorism and that sort of thing, it ends up as an echo chamber, one that nobody except those crowds will *want* to join.

Bingo 🎯

Funny how freedom feels boring to people addicted to cages.
